Submitting comments

When visitors leave comments on this website, we collect the data shown in the comment submission form’s fields, the visitor’s IP address, and a browser user agent identification string. This data is used to facilitate spam detection.

If you provide your email address when commenting, an anonymized ‘hash’ string created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service, to see if you are a Gravatar user. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your Gravatar profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Personal information in comments

Comments must not contain personally identifiable information (PII). Any comments containing PII will be manually deleted.

Comments with PII will be determined on a case-by-case basis, at the discretion of website moderators and administrators. A greater amount of PII in a comment or across a series of comments will increase the likelihood of comment deletion.

Some examples of PII include: email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, mailing addresses, and links to other sources containing large amounts of PII.

Commenting code of conduct

Commenting anywhere on this website or its associated media is subject to a code of conduct.

Read the dav-idc website code of conduct.

Media

If you choose to upload images or other media to this website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Most pages on this website do not use cookies. The one exception is an optional set of cookies if you choose to post a comment.

If you leave a comment on this website, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit the website login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this website may include embedded content. For example, videos, images, maps, audio players and other multimedia. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Third party data sharing

This website and its owners do not actively share or sell any user data with third parties. However, WordPress plugins may have limited access to website data. At this time any plugins used are installed and used as-is, using the default privacy protections WordPress enforces for plugins.

This website does not use Google Analytics.

How long we retain data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so that within a thread, follow-up comments from the same user can be recognized and auto-approved.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this website, you can request to receive an exported file of the comments associated with your commenting username or account.

If you are able to prove ownership of a username or account which posted comments, you can request that we erase any comments posted by that username or account.

Comments will not be deleted upon user request unless username or account ownership can be reasonably proven to the satisfaction of moderators.

We do not remove or delete data which we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

All posted comments are filtered through Akismet Anti-spam, an automated spam detection service. This is done to prevent the sharing of malicious, harmful, and misleading material.
